O knjizi

A hundred poems are dedicated to the millennia-old Egyptian civilisation: to the questions it raised and the answers it offered. Instead of an epic celebration, every poem in this lyrical collection is like a transparent pebble, reflecting a fragment of the grand stage crossed by gods, pharaohs, priests, mages, merchants, builders, workers, powerful female rulers, Mamluks, nomads, saints, philosophers, poets, dreamers, adventurers, scientists, and humble, ordinary people. At the same time, the author’s own intimate history flows through the verses, hidden within the details of her personal experience of this pharaonic land.

Ultimately, Egypt, born from fertile soil and the croaking of cosmic frogs, emerges before us like a dream, embodied in the words of a priest from the temple of Sais addressed to the Greek sage Solon: “You Greeks are but children.” And so are we, left astonished by both the silence and the voice of Egypt.
